Then Saul said, "I have sinned. Return, my son David, ... because my life was precious in your sight this day. Behold, I have played the fool and have committed a serious error.  1 Samuel 26:21

FOOL:  Someone who sees the oblivious and yet not believe, and has endless opportunities but fails to take advantage of them.

The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God.  There is a store of great treasure in the house of the wise, but it is wasted by the foolish man.  Psalm 14:1; Proverbs 21:20

1.  Loving family.

Now there was a man of Benjamin named Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a man of wealth.  He had a son named Saul.  1 Samuel 9:1,2a

"Come, let's go back, or my father will stop thinking about the donkeys and start worrying about us”.  1 Samuel 9:5

The donkeys you set out to look for have been found. And now your father has stopped thinking about them and is worried about you. He is asking, "What shall I do about my son? 1 Samuel 10:2b

2.  Natural talent.

He had a son named Saul, an impressive young man without equal among the Israelites--a head taller than any of the others.  They ran and brought him out, and as he stood among the people he was a head taller than any of the others.  Samuel said to all the people, "Do you see the man the LORD has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people." But some troublemakers said, "How can this fellow save us?" They despised him and brought him no gifts. But Saul kept silent. 1 Samuel 9:3;10:23,24  1 Samuel 10:27

3. Spirit filled.

The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.  for God is with you.  1 Samuel 10:6,7

1. Destroyed family togetherness through sin of the FLESH.

Jonathan attacked the Philistine outpost at Geba, and the Philistines heard about it. Then Saul had the trumpet blown throughout the land and said, "Let the Hebrews hear!"  So all Israel heard the news: "Saul has attacked the Philistine outpost.  1 Samuel  13:3,4

Saul said, "May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if you do not die, Jonathan."  But the men said to Saul, "Should Jonathan die-- So the men rescued Jonathan, and he was not put to death. 1 Samuel 14:44,45

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.  Children, obey your parents. Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.  Ephesians 5:33;6:1-2

2. Destroyed his fellowship with God through IMPATIENCE.

So he said, "Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship " And Saul offered up the burnt offering 1 Samuel 13:9

You acted foolishly," Samuel said. "You have not kept the command the LORD, if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.  But now your kingdom will not endure.  1 Samuel 13:13,14

Wait for the LORD;  be strong and take heart  and wait for the LORD.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control.  Psalm 27:14; Galatians 5:22

3.  Destroyed his walk with God through DISOBEDIENCE.

Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'  But Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves   Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel:  "I am grieved that I have made Saul king, 1 Samuel; 15:3,9 ,10,11

Trust in the LORD with all your heart  and lean not on your own understanding;  Proverbs 3:5,6

The Last straw:  1 Samuel 28:6,7
