Allen McLauchlin, Pastor

All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him. David longed for water and said, "Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!"  So the three mighty men of valor broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the LORD.  "Far be it from me, O LORD, to do this!" he said. "Is it not the blood of men who went at the risk of their lives?" And David would not drink it.  Such were the exploits of the three mighty men of valor .1 Samuel 22:2; 2 Samuel 23:15-17

“WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL BROTHERHOOD MINISTRY?”

1.  One in which the common goal, is to GLORIFY God.

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together (on one accord) in one place. Acts 2:1

But the word of God continued to increase and spread. When Barnabas and Saul had finished their mission, they returned from Jerusalem, taking with them John, also called Mark. Acts 12:24,25

When he had said this, he knelt down with all of them and prayed.  They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him.  Acts 20:34,35

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.  1 Corinthians 10:31

Immediately, because Herod did not give glory to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down  Acts 12:23

2. One in which genuine LOVE is displayed.

David longed for water and said, "Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!"  So the three mighty men of valor broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well.  2 Samuel 23:15,16

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Keep on loving each other as brothers. Romans 12:10; Hebrews 13:1

Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.  1 Thessalonians 4:9

Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping.  And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them.  Genesis 45:14,15

3. One in which APPRECIATION is shown.

So the three mighty men broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the LORD. 1 Samuel 23:15

Now we ask you, brothers, to appreciate  those who work hard among you,  Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work.                      1 Thessalonians 5:12,13

Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love  and his wonderful deeds for men.  Let them sacrifice thank offerings  and tell of his works with songs of joy.  Psalm 107:21,22

4. One in which every brother lends a helping HAND.

I am not able to bear the burden of you alone.  Deuteronomy 1:9

So it came about when Moses held his hand up, that Israel prevailed, and when he let his hand down, Amalek prevailed.  But Moses' hands were heavy. Then they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other. Thus his hands were steady until the sun set.  So Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. Exodus 17:11,12

You will surely wear out, both yourself and these people who are with you, for the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone. "Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; Exodus 18:18;21a

But select from among you, brethren, seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task  Acts 6:3
