The Cross

Once there was a group marching on a journey
Each had their cross to carry
They didn't know how far they would travel
But each were willing to take the journey

As they marched, the crosses became heavy
Some complaint, some grew tired, and some slowed down
Then there was one who topped all together
Chopped off a piece of his cross to make it lighter

The others did not wait, but kept marching
As the one who stopped looked up
He saw that he was far behind
He got up tried to run, but the cross still seemed heavy

So he stopped again, chopped off a little more
And began his journey as before
The more he stopped to remove pieces from the cross
The farther he got behind

When he finally caught up with the rest
They all came to a ditch that was too wide and too deep
Each took their cross, laid it down over the ditch
And were able to cross

Except the one who removed pieces from his cross.  It was too short
He considered the cross a burden, too heavy to carry
And when he needed to continue his journey, he chopped at it
So he was unable to reach his destination

The morale is, the cross is a whole cross and yes at times it will become too heavy. If we're always cutting away pieces, then our cross loses its power and we may not have enough left to continue or even reach our journey, which is heaven.  As you travel with Christ, don't weaken your cross by cutting away pieces, just ask God to give you the strength to carry it.
